Am I right in thinking that PG is the longest-serving EIC at Jalopnik? Seems like he outlasted everyone else’s tenure. While he didn’t build the place like Spin, or grow it like Roy Wort, he managed it through some tough and weird times.

This is one of the departures that really makes me sad as I’ve had more interactions with PG on the front page than nearly any other author. He’s also the one that put my Fiero and RX-8 article on the front page back in the days when that still happened.
I mean, I understand why so many GMG staff are leaving , but it sucks that it happening. It sounds like he has something better lined up though so best wishes to him!

Ballaban’s the interim. Honestly, as someone who worked with him, I think he’s the best choice. He’s incredibly supportive, gives clear feedback, and is all around a good dude.
I like that there’s a mix of content for a whole bunch of different interests here, and I don’t think he’ll steer away from that, either. They’re in good hands for now, IMHO.

I hate freelancing. I truly hate everything about it. Healthcare is too expensive for me to actually get a policy that covers everything , I’m often lowballed on rates compared to dudes with similar (or less!) experience, pay is too sporadic, freelance budgets are too easily cut with no warning and I hate how lonely and isolated it is. I gave it a shot! I just discovered that I hate it.
I’m so ready to move on to something else, but absolutely nothing that would be a good fit actually wants to hire me. I’m the leftover no one wants.
